What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comment form, the visitor’s IP address, and browser user agent to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service if you use it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
When you leave a comment on our site, you can indicate whether you want your name, email address, and website to be stored in a cookie. We do this for your convenience so that you don’t have to fill in these details again for a new comment. These cookies are valid for one year.
If you have an account
If you have an account and log in to this site, we store a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie does not contain personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.
When you log in
When you log in, we will also store some cookies related to your login information and screen display options. Login cookies are valid for 2 days, and screen display options cookies are valid for 1 year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will be stored for 2 weeks. When you log out of your account, login cookies are deleted.
When you edit or publish a post
When you edit or publish a post, an additional cookie is stored by your browser. This cookie does not contain personal data and only contains the post ID of the article you edited. This cookie expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may contain embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Your rights over your data
If you have an account on this site or have left comments, you can request an export file of your personal data that we have about you, including all the data you have provided to us. You can also request that we delete all personal data we have about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where we send your data
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
